Internships

We offer interested university students the possibility to absolve internships with our office in Beirut for a period of two to four months (April to July- September to December- January to March).

Who we are looking for:

Students who have completed at least the bachelor level (the German Grundstudium) in a political, social or cultural domain, preferably related to Middle Eastern affairs. Applicants should have a good command of written and spoken English as well as basic knowledge of standard Arabic or the Sham dialect. Involvement in political activities or social activism are definitely a plus for your application. If you are interested in interning with us, please send your CV with a detailed cover letter in English. The letter should state your reasons for seeking co-operation with our office in Beirut. What we offer :

Our well-equipped premises offer interns their own PC work station. Our foundation works closely with Lebanese NGOs and research staff, which provides you with first-rate opportunities for study and research work

No pre-arranged topic of work is allocated to interns, as all domains of engagement can be discussed during the internship. Responsibilities of interns working at the foundation include the analysis of current political, economic or social developments, and assisting in planning, preparation and completion of FES seminars, workshops and conferences. Regrettably, the FES cannot provide a contractual salary for internships. It may be possible to attain financial support in Germany, by applying for "studies abroad" under the German Auslands-BaföG programme or for an internship scholarship from the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service).

The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung might assist you in finding accommodation for you, and also with your travel arrangements to Lebanon and back.
